  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for meringue)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, butter, sugar, and salt until the mixture resembles crumbs. Press into a baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, lemon juice, and zest. Add baking powder and mix well. Pour over the baked crust.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  5. Spread the meringue over the lemon filling.
  6. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the meringue is golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
